To promote recycling in the City of Portage and Kalamazoo County, the sixth annual recycled art event will be held using recycled materials that will be displayed in Celery Flats for one week. This is not a juried art show but a venue for artists to express their creativity and create public awareness on recycling. Public voting and judging will be conducted with prizes awarded the day of the event, with public choice for the community art one week later. All artwork will be displayed outside at Celery Flats for public viewing (except for the recycled fashion show creations).

NEWS RELEASE June 29, 2018

The deadline for entries to the 2018 Recycled Art in the Park contest, sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo and Portage Parks & Recreation, is September 7. Use materials that would normally be thrown to away give new life to your own original work of art! Participants will be limited to the first 30 entries. Recycled Art in the Park is non-juried art show created as a venue for artists and others in the community to express their creativity and create public awareness of recycling.

The Opening Event and Panel Judging will be held Saturday, October 6 in Celery Flats and the art will be displayed outside for public viewing through Saturday, October 13. A panel of area artists will judge entries based on the use of recycled materials, creativity, artistry and originality. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories including $300 for First Place, $200 for Second Place and $100 for Third Place. Youth Individual and Youth Group winners will be awarded $150 for First Place, $100 for Second Place and a commemorative plaque for Third Place.
